WALT SMITH
Chief Executive Officer Riverstone Residential Group Walt leads the overall operations and board of director efforts for Riverstone Residential Group, the largest privately-owned, third-party multifamily property management company in the United States and a subsidiary of CAS Partners. Riverstone Residential Group manages a portfolio of assets valued at more than $25 billion for leading institutions, pension funds, developers and other major owners. Located in metropolitan markets across the nation, the more than 700 managed properties include high-rise, mid-rise, and garden style communities. He has been in the property management industry for 23 years and is one of the three founding Principals of HSC Real Estate, a real estate company that was acquired by Riverstone Residential Group in 2008. Walt is a member of IREM and the Washington Chapter of the National Apartment Association. He graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Communications and lives in Seattle with his wife and three children. ![]()
TERRY DANNER
Chief Administrative Officer Riverstone Residential Group Terry Danner, the company's Chief Administrative Officer, is responsible for furthering the company's overall strategic initiatives and specifically leads the corporate marketing and research efforts. He oversees the administration of the company's 32 regional offices throughout the United States. He also leads a dedicated team focused on expanding client services and new business development for Riverstone Residential Group's work in distressed assets. Partnering with Christy Freeland in 2006, Terry established Riverstone Residential Group through a buyout of Trammell Crow Residential Services. While at Trammell Crow, Terry served as President and Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the South Central region. Today, Terry's expertise continues helping establish Riverstone Residential Group as a world-class property and asset management company. He graduated from Georgia Tech with high honors, earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, and also earned a master's of business administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a Board Member at Large of the National Apartment Association. ![]()
CHRISTY FREELAND
Chairman Riverstone Residential Group Christy Freeland brings more than 30 years of experience to her role as Chairman of Riverstone Residential Group, the flagship brand of CAS Partners. In January 2006, Christy partnered with Terry Danner to form Riverstone Residential Group through a buyout of Trammell Crow Residential Services. Since then, the company has grown into the industry's largest privately owned company. Previously, Christy was President and Chief Operating Officer for TCRS operations in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and South Florida. Today, she is involved in advancing the company's strategic initiatives in managing more than 175,000 apartment homes across the country and has been the driving force in establishing Riverstone Residential Group as the nation's premier property management company. Christy leads a new business development team in those efforts. Christy holds a bachelor's degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland, and a master's degree in urban planning from the University of Tulsa. Christy is also a principal of CAS Partners. ![]()
BARB ERHART
Chief Financial Officer CAS Partners In her role as Chief Financial Officer, Barb holds responsibility for accounting, investor relations and treasury functions across all CAS Partners business lines and subsidiaries. Barb came to CAS Partners in February 2009 with more than 31 years of financial and operational experience. She has been active in the real estate sector since 1995. Over the course of her career, Barb has completed more than $775 million in interim, permanent and line financings and managed all facets of real estate development. Most recently Barb served as the Staubach Company's managing director of finance and operations in its capital markets division; and she previously served as CFO of RM Crowe Company, a regional real estate owner and management group. Barb earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Texas A&M University, graduating magna cum laude. She is also a certified public accountant. ![]()
TY BREWER
Chief Information Officer Ty Brewer is the CIO for both CAS Partners and Riverstone Residential Group and is responsible for accounting systems, property business systems, telecommunications, and other computer services. Ty has 15 years of real estate experience, and is the founder of the Residential IT Executive Forum. Before joining Riverstone Residential Group, he was with Brandywine Realty Trust and Prentiss Properties Trust, where his responsibilities included management of the business systems, marketing and computer security. Ty received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Tech University and holds the CISSP designation. ![]()
LAURIE BRASHEAR
Chief People Officer CAS Partners As CAS Partners' Chief People Officer, Laurie Brashear is responsible for leading all human resources operations for both CAS Partners and Riverstone Residential Group. Her scope of responsibility includes associate relations, benefits, compensation and career development. As an executive in human resources for more than 20 years, Laurie has previously held the same title with similar responsibilities on a global scale with Stream, a 15,000-employee contact center outsourcing company. She was also formerly director of global human resources for Software Spectrum, and had significant international and domestic responsibilities at the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) and Mary Kay, Inc. Laurie holds a bachelor's degree from Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio. ![]()
MEL BARKS
Chief Operating Officer CAS Partners Ms. Barks relocated to the Dallas operation in 2007 although has been affiliated with the UK parent company CAS since 2005. Prior to joining CAS in 2005, Mel held various positions within UK 3rd party UK Real Estate Company's such as Head of Property Accounting covering assets head of projects largely responsible for integrating businesses acquired into a standardized accounting environment. She has over 20 years of real estate experience and worked with the owners of CAS where she was instrumental in the integration of systems and procedures for a portfolio of properties with $600 million in fee revenues. ![]()
MICHAEL HOFFMAN
Chief Legal Officer As Chief Legal Officer of both CAS Partners and Riverstone Residential Group, Michael Hoffman's specific areas of expertise include department management, lobbying and government relations, international and domestic transactions, litigation management, stock and asset acquisitions and sales, corporate governance, consumer marketing, advertising and Internet, and regulatory compliance. Michael most recently served as president and principal executive officer, board of directors, at Vogel Alcove, a not-for-profit charitable agency dedicated to childcare and social services for homeless children. Prior to taking that position, he served 14 distinguished years at VarTec telecom in various strategic leadership roles, including chief legal officer, president, chief executive officer and director. In November 2005, Michael was recognized by Texas Lawyer as one of the state's top 50, in-house attorneys. He was also named as one of Texas' Rising Stars and Super Lawyers in 2004, 2005 and 2006 by Texas Monthly; and, in 2004, D Magazine named him one of Dallas' best lawyers under 40 in the specialty of corporate. Michael graduated cum laude from Dickinson College, receiving a bachelor's degree in history and Latin American; before earning juris doctorate from American University's Washington College of Law. A member of the Association of Corporate Counsel since 1993, Michael has also been admitted to Texas, Pennsylvania and District of Columbia bar associations. ![]()
GARDNER REES
Managing Director CAS Business Services As Managing Director of CAS Business Services, Gardner Rees is responsible for originating and implementing corporate acquisition activities, from transaction analysis through due diligence and operational integration. He also oversees operations for five CAS business service organizations: CAS Insurance Services, CAS Capital Improvement Services, CAS Utility Services, CAS Screening Services and CAS Purchasing Services. Gardner has extensive experience in the acquisition of multifamily residential real estate companies and property assets. Immediately prior to joining CAS Partners, Gardner was a principal of Stratus Real Estate in California. He also served as a vice president for an international investment bank and was involved in the acquisition, recapitalization and corporate restructuring of a number of Fortune 100 companies. Gardner has a bachelor's degree from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA in corporate finance and information systems from York University. ![]()
DAVID A. SMITH
CEO CAS Financial Advisory Services David A. Smith, CAS Financial Advisory Services CEO and founder of Recap Advisors, designs, develops and delivers new business services tailored to the needs of specific customer segments. A senior fellow at the University of Maryland, David is also an award-winning author with more than 100 published articles in real estate, valuation and policy periodicals, and a textbook; and is a sought-after speaker. In 1989, David founded Recap Advisors, one of the nation's acknowledged experts in the finance, restructuring, and asset management of multifamily residential properties. He also served as its CEO. Throughout his career, David has been a pioneer in both private transactions and government policy innovations, having created business lines in acquisition of existing affordable housing, financial recapitalization, debt restructuring, equity takeout and renewed affordability. He has provided high-quality analysis to Congress, the Millennial Housing Commission, CBO, HUD and others, and was a principal member of the 1996 Senate mark-to-market working group. David graduated from Harvard University. ![]()
LEO DENSLOW
Senior Vice President CAS Capital Improvement Services Senior Vice President Leo Denslow has been active in the construction and maintenance field for nearly 15 years. He also has valuable experience in the areas of construction and development of single family and multifamily residential products for companies such as Trammell Crow Residential. Prior to assuming his responsibilities as head of CAS CIS, he served as divisional maintenance director for Riverstone Residential Group in the western United States, and also as senior vice president at Compass Capital Solutions. Leo received his bachelor's degree in construction management from Ferris State University and MBA from University of Denver. ![]()
ROB BISHOP
Vice President CAS Utility Services Vice President Rob Bishop oversees a comprehensive management plan for utility billing, energy procurement, energy consumption and conservation for the Riverstone Residential Group portfolio. Rob also manages a telecommunications program for Riverstone Residential Group which increases property telecommunications revenues through the consolidated negotiation of marketing agreements for business terms and services by leveraging portfolio strength. Rob has been in the real estate industry for 28 years, formerly serving as the vice president of business services for Colonial Properties Trust and vice president director of asset management for Summit Properties. Rob received his bachelor's degree from Phillips University. He has also completed courses at the Institute of Real Estate Management, the Metro School of Real Estate and the Jones School of Real Estate. ![]()
MARK STRINGER
Director CAS Screening Services Director Mark Stringer focuses on resident screening services and collections. Mark is a member of the ACA and a certified FDCPA instructor. He began his career in property management in 1992 as director of training for IS International, Inc. In 1996, he joined HSC Real Estate, Inc., as director of credit and collections. In 1999, as principal and vice president of operations, he formed Debt Recovery Management, Inc., a third-party property management collection agency. |
